Be Your Own Herbalist – Beginners Course

Sage & Calendula at a workshopFive summer evenings of practical herbalism aimed at giving you confidence in making and using herbal remedies. It is a complete package covering everything from accessing the herbs you need, making them into various remedies and using them safely and effectively for treating common ailments and improving well-being.

The course will cover over 20 different herbs and will make good use of the medicinal herb garden at Chepstow Therapy Rooms. It will be very hands on and we’ll be making different remedies each week. There will also be simple assignments given each week that will help you take what you learn and integrate it into your life.

The course is suitable for complete beginners or for those that have a little experience but would like increased confidence or to experience making more remedies.

The general areas we’ll cover are given below, although this may vary slightly.

An image of Chepstow herb gardenWeek 1: Introduction to herbal medicine. Using herbs safely & effectively. Herbal medicines from the kitchen. Digestive issues & herbal remedies. Making infusions & decoctions.

Week 2: Making tinctures part 1. Growing, harvesting & drying herbs. Herbal remedies for aches, pains & other ailments.

Week 3: Local wild herbs. Herbs for stress & well-being. Making poultices & infused oils.

Week 4: Herbal remedies for infections & immunity. Making tinctures part 2.

Week 5: Herbs & the skin. Making herbal salves & creams. Conclusion.

Everything you need for the course is included and you will receive a free 40 page handbook containing all the herbs, uses and recipes covered on the course and herbal medicines that you have helped make.

The course will be led by Mark P. Jack BSc(Hons) MNIMH, a medical herbalist practising in Chepstow, Newport and Monmouth. Mark holds an honours degree in herbal medicine and is a member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists. Fees & Booking:

Cost: £95 for the five evenings and all the learning materials needed for the course. If you book by the 4th May 2015 you qualify for the early-bird rate of £75.

The course will be held at Chepstow Therapy Rooms (part of Gestalt Centre Wales). It is within easy walking distance of both bus and railway station and there are several town car parks nearby.
