A Day in a Medicinal Herb Garden – Workshop

An image of the medicinal herb gardenThis will be a very practical workshop making extensive use of the medicinal herb garden at Chepstow Therapy Rooms. The workshop is designed to make it easy for you to start growing and benefiting from medicinal plants. You will learn about and experience all aspects of setting up and getting using a medicinal herb garden, including making some remedies on the day.

You do not need to be green fingered to grow medicinal plants (they are quite forgiving!) and you can soon have such a valuable resource close to hand.

We will cover:

  • A handful of comfrey from the herb gardenThe most useful plants to grow and where and how to grow them, including where to get the right plants, laying out your herb garden and the different options you have, the best conditions for different plants and planting and caring for the herbs.
  • The medicinal uses of these plants & how to use them for different health conditions safely and effectively.
  • How and when to harvest herbs, different ways to dry them, and labelling and storing herbs.
  • How to make infusions, decoctions, herb infused oils, herbal ointments and poultices.

Sage & Calendula at a workshopEverything you need for the workshop is included and you will receive a free handbook containing all the plants and remedies covered on the day. You will also take away a herbal remedy made on the workshop.

The workshop will be led by Mark P. Jack BSc(Hons) MNIMH, a medical herbalist practising in Chepstow, Newport and Monmouth. Mark holds an honours degree in herbal medicine and is a member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists.
